Author’s note: Happy Holidays! I thought to end the year with a cute haehyuk family fluff. :)

Merry Christmas, Darling.

Hyukjae stood in the doorway, shocked at the sight of their Christmas tree laying flat on the ground, his daughter smashing the ornaments in the box, and his son wrapping himself in strands of lights while his husband, Donghae, tried to untangle him. They heard him closed the door behind him and immediately stopped to look his way.

“Daddy’s home,” Haeun exclaimed. She screamed, then laughed, and ran out of the living room. Their little boy, Haru, stared at him and then his big sister before giggling and running after her while holding out his arms.

“No, Haru. I have to untangle you first,” Donghae said and quickly swept their son up in his arms. The little boy shrieked and struggled as his father untangled him and set him free.

Haeun ran down the stairs to Hyukjae with a piece of paper and a bright smile on her face. “Daddy, look what I made when you left.”

Hyukjae put the groceries on their kitchen table and took the picture from his daughter. She drew four stick figures next to a Christmas tree with gifts under it. Hyukjae told her it was beautiful and he was going to hang it on the fridge. Then, he leaned down and gave her a kiss on the cheek. His little boy was tugging at his pants and Hyukjae laughed before picking him up.

Hyukjae glared at Donghae as the three walked into the living room where he was standing the Christmas tree back up again and putting the ornaments back in the box.

“What happened?”

“It’s Christmas. They’re crazy,” Donghae answered.

“Well, no one is getting any Christmas presents until we clean up this mess and finish decorating the tree.”

Donghae gasped and then pouted as the kids ran to the ornament box. They took one out at a time and started to hang them on the tree.

“Are you serious,” Donghae asked.

“Yeah,” Hyukjae lied.

“B-but you can’t do that to us.”

“I’m the only one who knows where the presents are hidden,” Hyukjae said and walked into the kitchen to put the groceries in the fridge.

He returned to the dinner table to find their gingerbread house still standing and sighed in relief. He carried the tray into the kitchen and placed it on the counter in fear that his kids or husband would knock it over. They had spent six hours making it yesterday and Hyukjae wanted to keep it alive until Christmas morning. A few minutes later, he joined his family back in the living room to help decorate the tree. They were the only house on the block who had not put up their tree yet even though it was Donghae’s favorite part about Christmas.

Before they got married and adopted, Donghae would spend hours decorating the tree, taking it all down, and redoing it if he did not like it. Now, he had to decorate it with the kids and it took twice as long. Especially when they would hide some of the ornaments from him and accidentally break the rest.

“Daddy, here!”

Haeun gave him two plastic turtledoves and went back to look through the box. It had somehow become tradition for Hyukjae to hang the two turtledoves on the Christmas tree and give Donghae a kiss – like the first time when they celebrated Christmas as a newlywed couple. He could already see Donghae smiling that beautiful angelic smile of his. So, to tease him, Hyukjae told his daughter he would put it on the tree later when they finished decorating it completely. Donghae pouted.

In the end, once the tree was beautifully covered in decorations, Hyukjae hung the two turtledoves in the middle. Then, he wrapped both arms around Donghae’s neck and smiled. He leaned forward and gently kissed his husband’s lips as their kids covered their eyes and Haeun dragged out the longest “ew” he ever heard. They pulled away slowly, looked at their kids, giggled, and turned back to each other.

“I love you,” Donghae whispered and kissed his forehead.

“I know,” Hyukjae replied with a smile. “I love you too, Hae.”

Then, Donghae carried their son up in the air to put the star on top of the tree. It took Haru a couple of tries because of his weak and tiny hands but he got it eventually.

“Who’s hungry,” Hyukjae asked.

“Yay,” Haeun screamed and ran straight for the dinner table.

Haru was stomping his feet and reaching up for Hyukjae with grabby hand motions. Hyukjae picked him up and carried him over to the dinner table while Donghae reheated the food and set the table. His daughter wanted to eat the gingerbread house but Hyukjae told her she would have to wait until tomorrow because it was dinner time now and he did not want her to spoil her apatite.

After dinner, Donghae warmed up a bottle and glass of milk for Haru and Haeun. Haeun finished first so while Hyukjae continued to feed Haru, Donghae took their daughter to get her ready for bed. Shortly after, Hyukjae did the same. He gave Haru a warm bath, dressed him for bed, and laid him next to their daughter.

“Now, don’t squish your little brother.”

“I know, daddy. He sleeps here every day.”

“I know, princess. I’m just making sure you remember,” Hyukjae told her. “When he’s bigger we’ll give him his own room.”

She yawned and wrapped her arm protectively over her little brother. Hyukjae smiled and kissed them both. Donghae returned to their room after hanging the wet towels in the washroom.

“Do you want me to read you a bed time story,” he asked.

“No,” Haeun protested. “If I stay up then Santa…not going to come.”

Donghae giggled. “Okay, princess. You’re gonna take care of your little brother,” he asked her as he pulled the big sky blue blanket over both their kids and tucked them him comfortably. Haeun nod her head. “Can you kiss Haru good night?”

Haeun kissed Haru’s forehead and then looked back at Donghae who gave her a kiss on the forehead and then did the same with Haru, who by now was already in deep sleep.

“Good night, sweetie.”

Once their daughter too dozed off to sleep, they both quietly left. Donghae quickly cleaned the kitchen while Hyukjae went to get the presents from his hiding place – the garage. They put the presents under the Christmas tree and got ready for bed. When Hyukjae came out of the washroom, after brushing his teeth, he stood in the doorway and watched Donghae light a scented candle. The lights in their bedroom were dim and Donghae looked at him and suggestively hinted at him with his eyebrows. Hyukjae smiled in amusement.

Donghae walked over and held both of his hands. He looked up and Hyukjae followed his gaze to see mistletoe hanging above their doorway. His smile grew even more.

“Where’d you get that?”

“I bought it,” Donghae answered. “Now, I believe I am due a kiss.”

With one hand around Donghae’s next and the other cupping his cheek, Hyukjae pressed their lips together. The kiss was soft and sweet. It was innocent, like how they kissed for the first time. There was nothing but pure love in it. Hyukjae pulled away first, then Donghae leaned closer, taking Hyukjae’s bottom lip between his teeth. Hyukjae gasped and opened his mouth wider. Donghae kissed him a little harder. His tongue slipped into Hyukjae’s mouth, dancing with his own, and Hyukjae had both of his arms around his husband’s neck. Donghae’s arms were on his hips and pulled him closer. They broke the kiss once again and panted.

Hyukjae closed their bedroom door and joined Donghae on the bed. Donghae was on top of him, between his legs, and kissed his neck. Hyukjae loved it. He loved it when Donghae left marks of his presence on his body. Hyukjae loved it when Donghae indulged in him to his heart’s content. And Donghae loved marking Hyukjae, loved holding him in his arms, whispering sweet things to him, and making it know that he had someone who returned all those feelings. Someone who could not go a day without telling him he loved him. Someone who was always there for him when he needed him and even when he did now.

He could not imagine his life without Hyukjae. He was the man who took away his loneliness. He was the man, who made him smile, made him enjoy life more than he knew he could. He was the man Donghae decided to spend the rest of his life with and have a family with. Hyukjae was his everything and he knew it.

“Mnh…Hae,” Hyukjae moaned in a needy voice. “I need you.”

“Shhh, baby. I know,” Donghae whispered and spread his husband’s legs wider.

In the morning, Hyukjae woke up to the sound of his daughter yelling and jumping on their bed, telling them to wake up. He told his daughter to stop jumping on the bed in case she hurt herself and then sat up to stretch. She jumped off the bed and ran downstairs to their living room. He heard her screaming about Santa delivering the presents and how many there were. Hyukjae told her not to open any until her brother was there and quickly got out of bed to check on the little guy.

Haru was sitting in bed, pouting, at the verge of tears when Hyukjae ran inside and picked him up.

“I’m sorry, baby. Did Haeun scare you awake?”

Haru wrapped his tiny arms around Hyukkie’s neck and covered his face in his shoulder. Hyukjae shook him gentle in his arms and rubbed his back.

“It’s okay. Daddy’s here now.”

“Haeun, princess. Don’t open the gifts yet.” Donghae repeated as he walked into the washroom.

Hyukjae looked over the second floor railing to see their daughter sitting in front of the tree with both hands in her lap and a red gift box sitting in front of her.

“Wash your face, sweetheart,” he told her. She stood up and ran to the smaller bathroom downstairs and washed her face.

Hyukjae handed Haru to Donghae as he came out of the washroom and went in to wash his face and brush his teeth. Donghae took Haru downstairs to Haeun and cleaned them both up for the morning. By the time Hyukjae came down, the kids were both sitting in front of the tree and Donghae was opening up the curtains. The snow had begun to fall again.

“Can we open them up now?”

“Yes,” Hyukjae replied.

Donghae and Hyukjae sat down with their kids to open presents. Hyukjae helped Haeun open the rest of her gifts and Donghae helped Haru, until there were only two boxes left under the tree.

“Merry Christmas, darling,” they both said at the same time and then giggled.

They shared another kiss and opened their present. It did not matter what they got because they already had everything they ever wanted – each other and a family.

When all the boxes were empty and a large amount of wrapping paper was everywhere on the carpet, Hyukjae made some hot chocolate and Donghae brought over their gingerbread house. The kids were too busy playing with their new toys to care about the food so the two set the cups and gingerbread house aside to continue playing with their kids. Donghae lay on his back and held Haru up in his arms, pretending he was an airplane. The little boy giggled and began to get excited in Donghae’s arms. Haeun saw what all the excitement was about and crawled over to her father. She asked him to give her an airplane ride too so Donghae sat Haru down on his stomach and carried his daughter in his arms and on his legs. Haru began to wiggle on his stomach, ticking him and making him laugh.

Hyukjae watched them happily. He felt so blessed to have this family. He loved his children and he loved his husband. He thought the day Donghae asked him to marry him was the happiest moment of his life but no, this moment right here was the happiest he had ever been.

“Come here,” Donghae suddenly said and reached out for him with one hand. “It’s your turn.”

Haru and Haeun were back on the carpet, both crawling towards their toys again.

“I’m a grown man, Hae.”

“Don’t be such a drama queen,” he said. He took Hyukjae’s hand and pulled him closer.

Donghae was always able to carry him with ease no matter how old he got so Hyukjae let him do as he pleased. He held on to Donghae’s hands and resting his legs on top of his husband’s as he carried him in the air and swung him around.

“This is so stupid,” Hyukjae whispered to him, embarrassed.

“No, it’s not,” Donghae laughed. “It’s fun.”

Suddenly, he dropped Hyukjae on top of him.

Hyukjae yelped and landed with the side of his face hitting Donghae’s chest. Before he could tell his husband he was right, Donghae wrapped an arm around him and used his other hand to run his fingers through Hyukjae’s hair.

“To me, you’ll always be that little feisty thirteen year old I feel in love with. No matter how old you get,” Donghae assured him. “I will always love you.”

“Even if I get so old that I can’t perform sexually?” Hyukjae teased.

Donghae laughed.

“Then I will just have to continue showering you with all the kisses in the world.”

Hyukjae propped himself up on his elbow and smiled at Donghae.

“Me too,” Hyukjae confirmed. “I love you so much, Donghae.”

He gave Donghae a peck on the lips. Donghae smiled.

“I love you too, Hyukjae.”

Hyukjae rested his head back on Donghae’s chest and they both stayed like that for a long time, listening to each other breathe while their kids played near them. They could not ask for anything more in their life.

“By the way,” Donghae slowly said while rubbing Hyukjae’s back. “You’re gonna have to find a new spot to hide the presents next year.”

Hey there....MERRY CHRISTMAS ❄🎄
This was lovely and so adorable with the kids. I can totally picture the scene with the tree and ornaments everywhere and hae trying to untangle little haru. But hyuk loves them and they love each other. At least the gingerbread house survived. Thank you for sharing such a sweet family story. And hopefully next Christmas we find out hyuks new hiding spot.
